ABOUT

In association with Inclusion Alberta, Inclusion Calgary was formed in 2015 by a dedicated group of five parents of children with intellectual disabilities. What began as a small network of caring individuals committed to creating inclusive opportunities for their loved ones has since grown into a passionate team of 18 parents and allies. Together, we collaborate with families and community leaders to build a future where people with intellectual disabilities are valued and actively engaged in education, employment, and community life.

At Inclusion Calgary, we believe our greatest resource is the collective wisdom gained from our lived experiences. The lessons we’ve learned along the way fuel our commitment to supporting families. Through a range of learning opportunities, we provide guidance on key topics such as creating an inclusive vision, successful collaboration with school teams, recognizing opportunities for inclusion, navigating the path to employment, and much more.

Commitment to Inclusion

Inclusion happens when people are welcomed and supported to engage in all aspects of everyday life, including access to healthcare and wellness, education in community schools, local recreation, exploring interests, higher education, employment, political engagement, public transportation, social activities, faith communities, relationships, housing, and all other opportunities that shape a fulfilling life.

When children and adults with intellectual disabilities live, learn, and grow alongside their non-disabled peers, immersed in shared experiences and everyday moments, they experience not only participation but authentic belonging. And that is genuine inclusion.

By embracing shared environments, we break down barriers, cultivate understanding, and create stronger, more connected communities. When policies, systems, and attitudes evolve to prioritize inclusion, they ignite creativity, drive innovation, and improve the quality of life for everyone.

Genuine inclusion means that every individual is accepted and valued as an equal and essential member of a community, regardless of background, belief, or ability.

True inclusion goes beyond mere presence and ensures that all individuals have the opportunity to participate fully and contribute in their own unique way.
